Please pass this along to Robert Scheer.
We can't fix the Money and Banking system until most common people understand it.
We need a new textbook on the subject aimed at college freshmen

I have copied Scheer's "Live Chat" and put it on my website along with a bunch of what I hope were helpful notes.
I hope my notes suggest a course of action that makes sense. Essentially, I think we need a reconciliation modeled on South Africa's apartheid problems wherein no single person gets harshly blamed for crimes, ignorance, or simple lack of attention -- and all are "forgiven".
I believe that new laws, or legal action can not be set forth without making all sorts of elected officials, bureaucrats, businessmen, teachers, writers, analysts and such feel terribly guilty of at least partial complicity or inaction.
That feeling of guilt, I believe, will prevent meaningful laws from being enacted.
My suggestion is that a 200-page book for College Freshmen on "Money and Banking" should be written that would focus simply on how our Money and Banking system works -- without pointing fingers or assigning blame to people who for whatever reason were or are part of the problems we are experiencing. Lively discussion can be had and we probably can come to a consensus in the book as to what should be done -- as long as no attempt is currently made to assign blame for anything.
The analysis and blame can come in history books that will be written one hundred years from now.

I suggest that Paul Krugman, Thomas Friedman, and Jim Leher pick three sensible historians to write the book.
The book can be quickly reviewed by the Supreme Court and referred to a panel of 3 judges and either be accepted or turned down in a period of six months at the outside by that panel.
I think a scheme can be devised and put into a reasonable short book. which will be accepted by 90% of the public.
